The Picnic: The City & The Country

When it comes to packing a picnic – the antidote is a no fuss approach. Toss some things in a bag (or basket), and be on your way, because let’s be honest – most picnics come by way of an impulse desire to be one with the great outdoors (whilst maybe enjoying a little nosh as well). Where you are picnicking might effect your packing list – for example, while in the city, a multipurpose straw tote and thermos will do the trick. The country yields a little more room for novelty items – that transport easily from house to yard, or car to meadow. Wherever, whenever, and however you are going to picnic – make sure to grab a comfy blanket and a few outdoor friendly accessories – and then, just enjoy!

And when it comes to city vs. country – we say, both.

City dwellers lucky enough to live close to a park are likely those who picnic often. But for those who don’t, the uber or train ride is worth the effort. With places like Central Park and Battery Park City in your neck of the woods, its silly not to take advantage! Next time you find yourself without weekend plans, or wanting to forego the hour wait at Grand Banks – pack some cheese and (shhh) pinot, and make your own al fresco evening parked on The Great Lawn.

Own digs upstate, recently snatched up a cute AirBnb, or were invited to a friend’s home in the Hamptons? Well, there is no better place for a picnic. In the privacy of your own (or their) backyard, or while exploring a new park or lake, set up shop! Rather than rushing to the local hotspot for dinner, or doing that dreaded drive-through pit-stop, pack a basket full of farm fresh picks, and even summer cocktail ingredients you love. If you haven’t done it before, you will be pleasantly surprised how a low key picnic in the grass can be just what the doctor ordered.
