Weddings: Inside The Co-Founders’ Nuptials

Its officially wedding season and if you haven’t attended a wedding yet this summer, you might have one on the calendar. Or, you might just be the bride herself. If so – congrats! We have been there – through the thick of planning our nuptials, that is. Down to the fork and knife – we both planned weddings that required bringing everything into our venues. And I guess its no surprise – we are now in the business of event-related products and services.

Of course, our tables were something we gave some thought to. And if we are being honest about what’s important – we really think the tables are at the top of the list. Though some might overlook the “tablescape”, its not something that goes unnoticed. This is where guests will interact directly with your decor, and one of the places they will spend a significant amount of time during your event. We are not suggesting you spend twenty dollars per charger plate, but we are suggesting that you invest some time, energy, and a fraction of your budget here.

Now,take a look inside our own weddings, and how and why we chose our look and table settings . . .

How/why I chose my look & tablescape: “Before getting engaged, I’d never been the type to fantasize about my perfect wedding. So in the early stages of planning, I wasn’t really sure of the look and feel I wanted. I’m the kind of person who needs to land upon the perfect venue, and have the vision follow – and that is exactly what happened. Although we live close to my family in New York, we decided to have the wedding in Lancaster, where my husband grew up – as an homage to his childhood. After seeing many typical “barn wedding” venues that just didn’t wow me, we landed on Drumore – an old estate that used to be in my husband’s family, with the most perfect garden. Although most ceremonies here take place underneath a small built-in tent attached to the main house, I fell in love with the garden out back, and couldn’t shake the vision it created in my head upon first encounter. Guests would be seated between the rows of shrubbery, and the dance floor would lie at the center, facing the band. Choosing to have our entire wedding outdoors was a HUGE risk – especially because there was no “Plan B” – but well worth it. As for the decor, I wanted to let the setting speak for itself, so I kept my tables and flower arrangements minimal and neutral. I stuck with a simple palette of white and green, to play off of the abundantly green landscape. We selected white china, napkins and tablecloths, traditional silverware, and white and green floral arrangements, and filled the remainder of each table with votive candles of varying heights to keep the party going after the sun had set.”

How/why I chose my look & tablescape: “The look, or “vibe” of my wedding, was one thing I had nailed down in my head long before we even found our venue. I didn’t look at all types of venues – in fact, I only looked at a few that met a very specific set of criteria. To name a few . . . 1. there had to be on-site accommodations ( for us, our parents, and our bridal party)  2. there had to be adequate space for a tent 3. it had to make us feel like we had been transported to the English countryside. (Note: we are not English, nor had we ever visited there – but I have always thought it to be one of the prettiest places ever). Once we found the perfect spot (Glynwood), the venue guided us to a lot of the decisions we made in terms of decor. Though it did take a lot, a lot of effort – we wanted a sense of effortlessness in all elements of our weekend. The one exception to that rule might have been the table settings though – because when it came to those I wanted a little something extra. We chose off-white, gold rimmed chargers and plates, paired with a collection of uniquely shaped glasses – champagne flute, wine glass, and water glass. We opted for average silverware because we felt the more special options weren’t really worth the cost. Instead we used that money to have printed tablecloths and overlays hand-made. Our flowers were neutral hues mixed with greenery – with lots of varying heights and textures. Menus were hand painted and monogrammed – and included each guest’s name. We thought it was important that each guest had a seat at our wedding, that was uniquely their own.”

Recipes: Summer Salad Roundup

The holiday weekend is behind us, but unfortunately the aftermath of our less than healthy food and alcohol choices didn’t quite slip away in tandem. Thankfully, we can opt to keep it light in the summer days ahead without sacrificing too much. Delicious summer salad recipes are both healthy and easy to make – and a perk to these leafy concoctions – most don’t require much cooking! Try one out next time you are hosting guests, throw one together as a quick and tasty dinner solution, or make choose one, or a few, to make in a large quantity to take with you on-the-go or for a work lunch. Also – feel free to add your choice of poultry, meat, or fish; or likewise, to subtract from any of these recipes to make them your own!

Set The Table: 4th of July

This weekend is the Fourth of July – in case you forgot. Which, if you are anything like us, you didn’t because you were sure to call dibs on a Summer Friday months ago. Whatever your plans – whether you’re staying home, driving out of town, or hopping on a flight – we can almost guarantee that at some point over the long weekend you will find yourself around a table of family and/or friends. After all, we all love the idea of celebrating ‘Merica with some delicious grub and cold cocktails.

To get the setting just right, you’ll of course want some red, white, and … you guessed it – blue. But, consider not being so literal with the holiday of stars and stripes. When it comes to table setting, remember you need not be solely inspired by the country flag. Instead, pair florals, solids, and a multitude of textures that are effortlessly elevated by the natural backdrop of your yard, patio, or rooftop.

Weddings: A Tablescape For Every Bride

When it comes to your wedding, no detail should be spared. Like anything else that you dream up, plan, prepare, and reach into your wallet for – your special day is an extension of you. And of course you is different for everyone. Because while some of us wouldn’t dream of missing the chance to hop on a plane and invite guests abroad for our impending nuptials, others of us simply want a clean and beautiful palette – perhaps a bit closer to home.

Tabletop Trends: Summer

Today officially marks the first day of summer – and if you’ve forgotten, we’re sure social media has reminded you by now ☀️☀️☀️. With summer comes al fresco weather, long weekends, backyard barbeques, and an overall mood boost that make it one of our favorite times to entertain. Recipes: Red, White and Blue Memorial Day Pavlova

As Memorial Day weekend officially kicks off the summer – A.K.A. bikini season – we crave a dessert that’s light, refreshing and fruit-forward. This weekend, we’re making a pavlova: a meringue dessert topped with whipped cream and fresh berries. We love this dessert because it’s easy to make, yet elegant – the merengue crust delivers complexity, as it’s crisp on the outside and marshmallow-y on the inside, while the cool whipped cream and berries add layers of subdued sweetness. (Note: while you can use any type of fruit to top a traditional pavlova, for Memorial day we chose strawberries and blueberries to make our dessert red, white and blue.)

Let’s Talk Florals: Corner Deli Hacks

Though florals are not a tabletop “essential”, per say, they can be the difference between a good table and a great table. In The Art of Setting The Table, we discussed ways to maximize your table’s aesthetic appeal. Of course, flowers were on the list.

At The Table, the rule of thumb is to purchase flowers on the day of your dinner or event. While many elements of table setting can be prepped in advance, florals are best left untouched until shortly before your guests arrive. This guarantees that flowers are fresh – and at their peak liveliness while on the table. Of course the quality of your blooms will depend on where you purchase them. When it comes to sourcing florals, there are several options. Factors that will play into your selection will include location (if we lived near the Chelsea Flower District we wouldn’t shop anywhere else), budget, and willingness to DIY.

The Art of Setting The Table

What might have once been seen as chore, has become a form of art for many – including us, at The Table. Like getting dressed, applying makeup, or furnishing your home, table setting – or commonly referred to today as “tablescaping” – has become a tried and true form of self expression. Not only does your tablescape set the mood and tone of  your dinner, event, or gathering – in many cases, it is an extension of your personal style. After all, there is no rulebook for table setting. In fact, the “fewer rules the better” approach often yields the best results. For those who may not have that natural Martha Stewart knack, there are some basic techniques you can follow, should you find yourself stuck in that “how to set the table” conundrum. For maximum aesthetic appeal, try a few basic tricks . . .
